Entebbe probably is the most pleasant town in Uganda. It is simply nice to be in the town. Cental Inn is fairly new and big and has free wifi. The rooms are not fantastic (beds are too short for instance and they are really Spartan). But the price is very competitive (45 USD/night for a single person). The food in the restaurant is good. The place would be better if the breakfast (included) was not so bad and if the staff knocked on the door before unlocking and entering (happened more times). We only had one night’s stay at Central Inn and then went to the Lake Victoria Hotel. Excellent standard of the rooms, nice pools, and generally a good service (165 USD per night for a single person). The restaurant was not good though (Central Inn was actually better). And the breakfast (included) was something of a mixed bag (but generally not so good apart from the omelets).
In Entebbe we visited the botanical garden – which brought back memories from my first visit, but nonetheless is most of all like walking in a park (note that the southernmost entrance is badly signposted so a few words on how to get to it may be advisable). We also visited the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. If I had known how big it was – that it really is like a real zoo (though they emphasise they are not), I would have allocated much more time there. We spent some hours – and really had a good time there. I would have liked to hire a guide if time had allowed us to stay on (the guides are very fairly priced).
In Entebbe we visited various restaurants. The Gately has lunches which are somewhat bland. Their evening meals are better. China Garden has good Chinese food – and the helpings are enormous (whilst the prices are very attractive). My daughters had China Garden as their favourite. My favourite probably was 4 Points – their Indian food is great. We also had lunch at the Golf Club – it was OK, but nothing we felt like trying again.
